Udupi Nirmithi Kendra in collaboration with Department of Archealogy and Museums, Government of Karnataka, conducted a workshop on the tradional metal casting techniques in the KotiChennaya theme park,Karkala, Udupi District on dates 11-02-2012 to 24-02-2012.
The unique metal casting art endemic to this geographical area around Udupi and South Canara Districts is a vanishing skill practice. The Modern mechanical process had taken away the intrinsic workmanship from this art.Hence the need for such an exercise was felt.
Udupi Nirmithi Kendra under the guidance of the camp director the famous visual artist sculptor Shri Purshotham Adve organized this camp
Many traditional practineersshared space in this 13 days long workshop with contemporary sculptors and artists in an effort to enhance and better the skills through exchange of techniques and practices.
This workshop was an effort by Udupi Nirmithi Kendra to revive and document this extinctinghandskill traditional process which had evolved through time.
