Udupi Nirmithi Kendra conducted a national level sculpture camp at the site of the then under construction Administrative office of the Udupi Nirmithi Kendra in Mannapalla, Manipal from dates 10th to 24thDeccember 2013.
Inaugurated by Shri M. T.Reju, IAS, D.C, Udupi District in the presence of child labor activist Kumari Nandana Reddy, eminent Post-modern philosopher physicist Shri Sunder Sarukkai and the camp curator Shri Giridhar Khasnis Art critic.
The camp had the participation of traditional sculptors including tribal artists alongwith contemporary artists. The camp convener was Visual Artist Shri Purshotham Adve and assisted by Praveen Kumar.
The Sculpture Camp was curated bringing together talented sculptures across India, from various disciplines. This rare event produced some great works by the participating artist to name Balamukund Nag. Sunder Singh Besra,Sonadhar Vishwakarma, Nandlal Vishwakarma, ,Bahadur Sing Rana,Vikram Singh Rana, Gotru Ram Mandavi , SuralauVenkataramana Bhat, Ravi Shah, AnandhPrabhu Desai , Uday Vir Singh , Bhuvanesh Gowda , Jayaram Mandavi and Rathnakar Acharya.
The art works created in the camp were installed in the landscape in the campus of the Udupi Nirmithi Kendra. On exploring the influence of artistic intricacies involved in the construction of traditional homes in the region Udupi Nirmithi Kendra realized and organized art camps to further the search of aesthetical possibilities in the contemporary trends of construction.
